America's Greatest Heart Run/Walk

As a way to give back to the community, Mohawk Valley Heart Institute (MVHI) again sponsored the Health & Fitness Expo and a Health & Wellness Assessment Booth as part of America’s Greatest Heart Run/Walk. The Expo was held March 1, 2013 at the Utica College gymnasium and featured a variety of health-related exhibits.

The Health & Wellness Assessment booth provided free cardiac health screenings from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., which included blood pressure readings, cholesterol readings with a breakdown of LDL and HDL, triglycerides and diabetic scores (that replace blood a glucose screening). Counseling on the results was provided by various healthcare professionals. The Risk Assessment is sponsored in part by Medtronic. Counseling on the results was provided by various healthcare professionals.

Pulmonary function testing was also available at the risk assessment, provided by Mohawk Valley Community College.

In addition, MVHI had a booth displaying information about cardiac-care services available at St. Elizabeth Medical Center and Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare.  This year, MVHI’s booth highlighted minimally invasive cardiac surgery services.
